The traditional colour of the national team is azure bluewhich is popularly known as azzurro in Italian. The Italian team’s first match was held in Milan in May 1910. Italy defeated France by a score of 6–2. The Italian team achieved their first success after winning a Bronze medal in an official tournament in the 1928 Summer Olympics, held in Amsterdam. After losing the semi-final against the strong team of Uruguay, an 11–3 victory against Egypt secured last place for them in the competition.

After declining to participate in the first World Cup in 1930 held at Uruguay  the Italian national team won two consecutive editions of the tournament in the year 1934 and 1938 consecutively, under the lead of coach Vittorio Pozzo and the genius of Giuseppe Meazza, who is known as one of the best Italian football players of all time. Other stars of that era included  Silvio Piola, Luis Monti, Giovanni Ferrari and Virginio Rosetta.

Apart from winning the FIFA world cup for four times, Italy Soccer Team also ended up as the runner-up for two times. They have been the runner-up for the EC in the year 2000.
